India Tests Agni-P Missile Capable of Carrying Nuclear Warhead

India's Ministry of Defence has announced the successful test of the new Agni Prime (Agni-P) missile, a ground-based intermediate-range ballistic missile capable of carrying nuclear warheads. This was reported by Interfax.

On October 21, the missile was launched from the Abdul Kalam Island testing facility in the Bay of Bengal, reaching a range of 2000 kilometers. "All objectives during the test were accomplished with high precision," military officials stated.

This marks the third launch of the two-stage solid-fueled missile. The first test was conducted in June 2021, and the second in December of the same year. The missile has been developed based on the Agni-II ballistic missile but features an upgraded guidance system for enhanced accuracy.

The Agni-P missile is set to replace the Agni-I and Agni-II missiles. Currently, India has Agni-I ballistic missiles with a range of 750 kilometers, Agni-II with a range of 2,000 kilometers, Agni-III and Agni-IV with ranges of 4-4.5 thousand kilometers, and Agni-V with a range of 5,000 kilometers. All of these missiles are capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
