Turkey May Resort to 'Football Diplomacy' in Relations with Armenia

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Akif Çagatay Kılıç, has announced that Ankara may once again resort to 'football diplomacy' in the process of normalizing relations with Armenia.

'On March 25, football matches will be held between the national teams of the two countries in Armenia, and in September, in Turkey. Our team will go there, perhaps, we will also go. The normalization process is progressing positively; there is a positive dynamic also observed in the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This should be done without resorting to provocations,' said Kılıç.

It is noteworthy that on January 14, the first meeting of special representatives for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey took place in Moscow, between Armenian Parliament Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan and former Turkish Ambassador to the U.S., Serdar Kılıç. During the negotiations, the parties demonstrated their willingness to engage in a constructive dialogue.
