What Caused the Fire at Evin Prison in Northern Tehran?

A fire that broke out Saturday evening at Evin Prison in northern Tehran due to a fight among inmates has been extinguished. The conflict among prisoners led to the burning of a clothing storage warehouse in the wing where inmates reside. Law enforcement immediately ensured security at the prison, and firefighters worked to put out the blaze, reports the IRNA news agency.

The Tehran prosecutor, Ali Salehi, stated that the atmosphere in the prison is calm. “The conflict at Evin Prison has no relation to the recent unrest,” he said. According to him, the section related to political prisoners is separate and located away from the other inmate cells, where the fire and the clash occurred.
