The British Skyrora's First Attempt to Launch a Rocket into Space Ends in Failure
The British private company Skyrora's first attempt to launch a rocket into space has ended in failure, with the device falling into the sea. This is reported by the Russian service of the BBC.
The launch took place on the Langanes Peninsula in Iceland. The Skylark L rocket was supposed to ascend above 100 km but fell into the water just half a kilometer from the launch pad due to technical issues.
“Although this launch attempt did not go exactly as we had hoped, it was nevertheless a valuable opportunity to learn lessons and a significant victory for the new relationship between Iceland and Great Britain, as well as for the European space sector in general,” said Skyrora CEO Vladimir Levikin.
It is noted that previously, Skyrora had launched small hypersonic vehicles at altitudes below 30 km. The Skylark L operates on a combination of kerosene and hydrogen peroxide. It is designed to provide a few minutes of weightlessness for scientific instruments on board the ship.
