We Will Not Leave Armenia Alone, It Is Impossible to Buy Us with Gas or Oil: Macron

France will not leave Armenia alone. Our values and principles cannot be bought with gas or oil, stated Emmanuel Macron in an interview with France 2.

According to the French president, France has special ties with Armenia because Armenia has always fought for tolerance and peace in the region.

“Two years ago, a war broke out in Nagorno-Karabakh. This is an internationally unrecognized and disputed territory. Azerbaijan unleashed a horrible war with numerous casualties and terrifying scenes, and seized that territory. This September, Azerbaijan also launched offensive operations along the border of Armenia, likely aiming to open a corridor between two parts of its territory. We condemned these actions. We met with the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan alongside the President of the European Council and decided that the parties must, first and foremost, commit to recognizing the borders of 1991 and agree to the deployment of a European mission at the border to monitor the situation on the ground to ensure the border is not violated.

So, what is happening at that border for the last two years? There are 5,000 Russian soldiers deployed there. Russia took advantage of this conflict, intervened, and clearly played Azerbaijan's game, with Turkey's complicity. France is here and acts as a mediator. We will not leave the Armenians. France does not buy Azerbaijani gas; there is no such contract, although some European countries do have such contracts,” Macron stated.
