Video: Salaries of Contract Servicemen to Double; Government Details Conditions

During today’s government meeting, Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan reported on a new draft law that proposes amendments to the "Law on the Remuneration of State Positions and Positions in State Service." Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded, stating that the draft essentially aims to double the salaries of contract servicemen.

“We hope the law will come into effect soon, and we expect the initiation of a voluntary certification process, meaning that once a soldier passes the certification, they will receive a salary increase, sometimes even more,” said Pashinyan. He added that this is one of the components in transitioning to a professional army.

According to the draft law, certification will be conducted for servicemen holding positions with responsibilities related to the execution, planning, or oversight of combat tasks, with the aim of calculating additional payments. Based on the results of the certification, the following conclusions will be made: 1) eligible for additional payment calculation; 2) eligible to continue the calculation of additional payments; 3) not eligible for additional payment calculation.
