We Want to Feel Russia's Backing, Mirzoyan to Lavrov
There are several questions regarding which Armenia would like to hear the Russian side's position. This was stated by Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Astana.
“We are fully committed to the trilateral statements made by our heads of state. We appreciate President Putin and Russia's personal contribution to establishing peace and resolving relations with Azerbaijan. At the same time, we see that Azerbaijan's appetite is growing, and this concerns not only Nagorno-Karabakh but also the sovereign territories of Armenia,” said the head of Armenia's Foreign Ministry.
He emphasized that Armenia, as Russia's ally and strategic partner, expects a clear position from the Russian Federation. “This issue has been discussed at the UN Security Council session, and there are certain countries there with which Armenia does not have a long history of friendship and strategic partnership, but they have made statements that more objectively and clearly reflect the situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border,” said Mirzoyan.
He added that there are many countries offering their mediation efforts and approaches. “It is very important for us to know Russia's position on these issues. We want to feel Russia's backing and move forward in the spirit of the trilateral agreements towards the resolution of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations,” emphasized the Armenian minister.
It was previously reported that on October 14, a trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan will take place in Astana within the framework of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council. It is noteworthy that Sergey Lavrov, Ararat Mirzoyan, and Jeyhun Bayramov last met in a trilateral format in Dushanbe during the CIS Foreign Ministers Council.
