Stoltenberg's Statements: 'Russia's Victory Would Mean NATO's Defeat, This Cannot Be Allowed'

NATO's support for Ukraine plays a key role in the situation surrounding the country. This was stated today, October 11, by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, according to international media reports.

"NATO is not part of the conflict, but our support is crucial," he said, emphasizing that a Russian victory in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine would equate to a defeat for NATO, which cannot be allowed.

The NATO Secretary General also mentioned that defense ministers of NATO member countries will increase assistance to Ukraine. He stated, "What we saw yesterday (the missile strikes on Ukraine) is a sign of Russia’s weakness, as Russia is not advancing on the battlefield."

NATO does not see any signs of Russia's intention to use nuclear weapons but remains vigilant. The organization will hold nuclear deterrence exercises next week.

Additionally, the defense ministers of NATO will strengthen assistance to Ukraine. The Ukrainian Minister of Defence will participate in the NATO meeting and in a coordination meeting of the contact group for military assistance to Kyiv on October 12-13.

Hybrid and cyber-attacks on the infrastructure of NATO countries could become a reason for activating Article 5 of the collective defense treaty. NATO is currently assessing the need to hold an extraordinary summit due to the war in Ukraine.
