I Am Haunted by the Horrific Execution of a Armenian Woman Soldier, Says PACE Member
In the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Swedish delegate Boriana Aberg has called for Azerbaijan to withdraw its armed forces from Armenia's sovereign territory.
According to Armenpress, Swedish parliamentarian Boriana Aberg spoke about Azerbaijan's war crimes during a plenary session of the PACE autumn session, addressing issues related to military operations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the targeting of civilian infrastructure.
“A few days ago, I received a horrific video showing the execution of an Armenian woman soldier. I am still haunted by those brutal scenes, the inhuman cruelty. This is not the only video where such a horrifying crime occurs,” Aberg remarked.
The parliamentarian added that since Azerbaijan's large-scale military aggression against Armenia's territorial integrity, many videos have been published by Azerbaijani users on social media. “These videos depict war crimes, horrifying scenes of the execution of Armenian prisoners of war, torture of Armenian servicemen, including women, and desecration of bodies,” stated the PACE member.
According to Aberg, the international community's response has been unequivocal. “Our position is clear: those responsible for war crimes must be held accountable,” the parliamentarian emphasized.
In Aberg's opinion, the situation in the South Caucasus remains very tense and alarming. “We have a situation where one member state of this organization is attacking another member state. Any ignorance on our part will allow for new violence and new atrocities. On September 13, we witnessed aggression against Armenia, which led to the occupation of Armenia's sovereign territories, horrific sufferings, human losses on both sides, and widespread destruction of civilian infrastructures in Armenia,” she noted.
Then the parliamentarian recalled the words of the European Commission Vice-President, High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell, stating that the fact is that Azerbaijan has bombed and occupied part of Armenia's territory, and Azerbaijani forces must withdraw.
“We call on Azerbaijan to withdraw its armed forces from Armenia's sovereign territory and return to positions held before this escalation. We call on Azerbaijan to cease any actions that may further escalate the already horrific situation,” the parliamentarian concluded.
