Azerbaijan Must Withdraw from Armenian Territory: French Delegate to PACE

In a plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), French delegate Jacques Le Nay made a clear declaration that Armenia's territorial integrity must be maintained, and Azerbaijan must withdraw from Armenian territory.

According to Armenpress, the member of parliament spoke about this during discussions at the PACE autumn session regarding military actions between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the targeting of civilian infrastructure.

“In this situation, which could rapidly lead to a new war, it is essential to remember a number of fundamental points. First and foremost, Armenia's territorial integrity must be preserved, and Azerbaijan must withdraw from Armenian territory,” stated the delegate.

He added that as member states of the Council of Europe, both countries must respect the rights of prisoners of war and refrain from taking captives. “However, the press reports about videos circulating on social media showing how Azerbaijani soldiers are abducting and torturing Armenians. Azerbaijan must investigate these incidents and hold those responsible accountable,” emphasized the PACE delegate.

He called on both countries to urgently negotiate a peace treaty and highlighted the need for the Council of Europe to fully fulfill its role as a pan-European platform for discussion and to contribute to the de-escalation of tensions and the respect for citizens' fundamental rights.

“The international community cannot remain indifferent to the situation prevailing in this region. The EU and the US, but also Russia and Turkey, must work together to resolve this conflict,” said the PACE member, noting that mobilizing the international community on this issue will not be easy, given the situation in Ukraine.
