Floods in Venezuela: Casualties and Missing Persons Reported
At least 22 people have died and 52 are reported missing due to floods in northern Venezuela. President Nicolás Maduro has declared a three-day mourning period, announced by Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez on Sunday.
“As of today, 22 bodies have been recovered, while more than 52 people are unaccounted for,” she stated to reporters. Her remarks were broadcast on Venezolana de Televisión.
According to Rodríguez, several mountain rivers have overflowed near the city of Las Tejerías.
“President Nicolás Maduro will declare the area a disaster zone, and he has also announced a three-day period of mourning,” Rodríguez added.
Currently, rescue operations are underway in the affected areas.
