CSTO Unable to Respond Effectively and Promptly to Aggression Against Armenia: Simonyan to Volodin

The delegation led by the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, on an official three-day visit to Moscow, was hosted by the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin, on October 10. The meeting, which lasted about an hour, was followed by an extended meeting with Russian counterparts.

One of the key issues discussed was Azerbaijan's armed aggression against the Republic of Armenia. “Our visit to Moscow takes place during a difficult period for Armenia. As is known, since September 13, Azerbaijan has entered a new phase of aggression against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia. The armed forces of Azerbaijan have intensively shelled not only the positions of the Armed Forces of Armenia but also civilian infrastructure in various directions deep within the territory of Armenia. It is a painful fact that we have 207 casualties and injured,” stated Alen Simonyan, calling Azerbaijan’s large-scale attack against Armenia’s internationally recognized sovereign territory a dangerous trend with annexationist intentions from Azerbaijan within the CIS area.

In this context, addressing the CSTO's activities, Alen Simonyan noted that it has been unable to respond operationally and effectively to aggression against one of its members. “Armenia does not have time for long-term solutions regarding security,” emphasized the President of the National Assembly of Armenia.

At the same time, Alen Simonyan expressed hope that the proposals developed during the CSTO's activities would contribute to de-escalating the situation and establishing stability in our region. Issues concerning the Armenian diaspora in the Russian Federation and the thousands of Russian citizens residing in Armenia were also addressed.
