VIDEO: There Is Nothing Unacceptable in the 5 Points Proposed by Baku: Ararat Mirzoyan
In mid-March, the five well-known principles conveyed by Azerbaijan were published, and our public is well aware of them. This time, elements of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan have been transferred to the Armenian side based on the previously conveyed five principles, stated Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a question-and-answer session with the government in the National Assembly.
Member of the "Civil Contract" faction Lilit Kirakosyan mentioned that following a meeting in Geneva with the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, the Azerbaijani side disseminated a message that the elements of a peace treaty were transferred to the Armenian side based on the previously communicated five principles.
"Indeed, we have received such a document. You know, the five well-known principles conveyed by Azerbaijan in mid-March have been published, and, in essence, both our public and the international community are well aware of these principles, and we have publicly noted that there is nothing unacceptable for us. This time, the proposals conveyed by Azerbaijan are fundamentally built on those principles. Of course, there are aspects that we are analyzing and will respond to later. There will be things that will again be acceptable to us, and there will be things that will not be acceptable. There will be proposals from our side that we will suggest to include. In other words, a normal negotiation process will continue," responded Mirzoyan.
Mirzoyan recalled that Armenia has also proposed its points regarding Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan. Referring to the mechanisms for discussions between Stepanakert and Baku, the Armenian Foreign Minister noted that there is currently a perspective on creating an international mechanism for dialogue between Baku-Stepanakert or Artsakh-Azerbaijan, stating, "Discussions are ongoing regarding this. Certainly, we have one position, and Azerbaijan has another. When we reach some mutually acceptable position..."
It should be noted that last spring, Azerbaijan offered the following principles for normalizing relations:
- Mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of international borders, and political independence of each other,
- Mutual confirmation of the absence of territorial claims against each other and legal obligation not to present such claims in the future,
- Refraining from threatening each other's security in interstate relations, threatening political independence and territorial integrity, and using force, as well as other circumstances incompatible with the goals of the UN Charter,
- Border delimitation and demarcation, establishment of diplomatic relations,
- Opening of transport and communication routes, establishment of other relevant communications, and cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.
