VIDEO: Details on the Explosion at a South Korean Military Base

The Hyunmoo-2 ballistic missile, launched by South Korean forces in response to North Korea's missile tests, was destroyed at the base shortly after launch. This was reported by Yonhap, citing the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Residents of Gangneung city (located in the northeastern Gangwon province) reported to the agency that they saw a bright flash and heard a loud explosion at 1:00 AM local time (8:00 PM Yerevan time on October 4).

According to data from the U.S. and South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff, the missile fell on the base where tests were being conducted, and no injuries were reported. The Defense Ministry has indicated that the cause of the incident is currently being investigated.

It has been reported that the day before, North Korea launched a ballistic missile that passed over Japan and fell into the Pacific Ocean, 3,000 km off the coast. South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol called this act a 'crazy provocation' and stated that North Korea would face a tough response from the South Korean military and its allies.

The United States has also condemned the launch of the ballistic missile. Adrienne Watson, spokesperson for the National Security Council at the White House, labeled it destabilizing.

This missile launch from North Korea was the fifth in the last two weeks, with Pyongyang having launched two short-range ballistic missiles near the country’s western coast on October 1, which fell outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.
