False, There is No Such Thing: Elbakyan on Pashinyan's Statements about Artsakh

Political scientist Edgar Elbakyan, commenting on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement today in the National Assembly, specifically deemed Pashinyan's assertion that by recognizing the Madrid principles, Armenia recognized Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan in 2007 as false.

"There is no such thing. The Madrid principles record the principle of the right to self-determination, which meant the recognition of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh as a state-forming entity that can self-determine, naturally outside of Azerbaijan's framework," said Elbakyan, adding that even foreign leaders have told Nikol Pashinyan that Ilham Aliyev understands that Artsakh can no longer be part of Azerbaijan with its former borders.

Elbakyan referenced a comprehensive report by experts from the Armenian project regarding the history of negotiations.
