Armenia Underestimated Azerbaijan and Paid the Price: Aliyev Claims He Knows Armenia's Tactics

Armenia underestimated Azerbaijan and paid for it, said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during the opening of the first national construction conference in Agdam, as reported by Azerbaijani media.

In his speech, Aliyev also addressed the peace process between Baku and Yerevan. “We feel some optimism regarding the peace process. A few days ago, there was a meeting between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia—the first of its kind regarding the preparation of a peace treaty text. We hope this won’t take long. We know the tactics that Armenia typically uses when it does not want to negotiate, for example, during the 27 years of negotiations around the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. If this continues, peace will not be established. And if this is Armenia’s choice, then it means they are making another serious mistake. They underestimated us, our will, the potential of the Azerbaijani people, and for this, they must pay their price,” said the autocrat.
