7.8 Magnitude Earthquake in Iran Felt in Armenia
On October 5, at 04:21 local time (00:21 GMT), the seismic network of the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations registered an earthquake near Marand, Iran, located 9 km southwest, with geographical coordinates of 38.35°N and 45.72°E and a depth of 10 km. The earthquake measured 5.5 in magnitude.
The intensity of the tremors in the epicentral zone was rated between 7 to 8 on the scale. The earthquake was felt in the Syunik Province with a magnitude of 5-6, in Vayots Dzor and Ararat provinces with a magnitude of 3-4, and in Kotayk Province, Yerevan, and Stepanakert in the Republic of Artsakh with a magnitude of 3.
