Turkey Asks Russia to Postpone Part of Gas Payments Until 2024: Bloomberg
Turkey has requested Russia to postpone part of the payments for natural gas supplies until 2024 in a bid to mitigate the economic damage caused by rising energy prices, Bloomberg reported today.
The Turkish state importer of energy resources, Boru Hatlari ile Petrol Tasima AS, also known as Botas, aims to defer part of the payments until 2024, according to the agency, citing anonymous sources.
Sources from the report mentioned that it remains unclear whether the negotiations will lead to any agreement.
According to Bloomberg, Turkey's significant dependence on energy imports has increased the pressure on the country's currency and budget. The agency notes that since the beginning of this year, the Turkish lira has depreciated by more than 28% against the dollar.
