Elon Musk Continues to Write About Ukraine, Zelensky Initiates Own Poll on Twitter
The world's richest man, Elon Musk, has published a new tweet concerning Ukraine after his four-point "peace plan" faced a wave of angry comments on Twitter. In response to Musk's posts, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has initiated a poll on the social network, according to the BBC's Russian service.
Musk tweeted, "Russia is partially mobilizing. They will carry out full military mobilization if there is a threat to Crimea. The number of casualties on both sides will be horrific." He added that "Russia's population is three times larger than Ukraine's, so in a comprehensive war, Ukraine's victory is unlikely." Musk concluded by stating, "If you care about the people of Ukraine, seek peace." He also initiated a poll noting, "The will of the people living in Donbas and Crimea should determine whether they will be part of Russia or Ukraine."
By 22:00 Moscow time, about 55% of nearly 500,000 voters were in favor, while over 44% were against it. Following Musk's suggestions, which call into question Ukraine's territorial integrity, thousands of users expressed their outrage in the comments, including Ukraine's representative at the UN and diplomat Andriy Melnyk, who recently served as Ukraine's ambassador to Germany. Melnyk responded to Musk's post by sending him a rude message in English.
In response to a user's comment suggesting that his tweets have turned many Ukrainians against him, Musk wrote, "Do you think I want to be popular? I don't care about that. But I think millions are dying for almost the same outcome in vain." Amidst the scandal, President Zelensky released his own tweet, asking users, "Which Musk do you like more, the one supporting Russia or the one supporting Ukraine?" By 22:00 Moscow time, more than 92% of over 150,000 voters supported the Musk who backs Ukraine.
