Azerbaijan Awards and Heroizes Those Who Tortured Armenians During the 44-Day War: Tatoyan
The former Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, made a Facebook post stating:
“After the release of a brutal execution video by the Azerbaijani 'Commando' unit against Armenian captives on September 13, 2022, Azerbaijani authorities published a video involving Armenian soldiers during the 44-day war, attempting to sell it to the international community and equate themselves with us. Subsequently, they felt compelled to announce that a criminal case had been opened. However, succumbing to pressure, they claimed their civil society had suddenly seen the video, felt sympathy, and demanded that a case be initiated; thus, the Azerbaijani government wisely opened the case. In fact, cynicism manifests in this manner.
How is it possible to comprehend that we have documented 287 objective (video) pieces of evidence regarding the torture, decapitation, and dismemberment of Armenians by Azerbaijani military personnel during the 44-day war, not counting other war crimes? How can we understand the state-level awarding and heroization of these criminals? Meanwhile, international organizations should take note that Azerbaijani crimes are a result of years of state-sponsored hatred towards Armenians, part of a unified chain that has not diminished, despite being veiled by a false Azerbaijani peace narrative. Another fact for international organizations: a criminal case was opened by the Investigative Committee of Armenia during the war, and this unique case, among all others, is under investigation there.”
