Protesters Attack Police Station in Iran
In Iran, amid ongoing protests, the Zahedan police station has come under attack. According to Euronews, 19 people have been killed, including a colonel from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Earlier, state media reported that 41 people, including security personnel, have been killed during the protests that have erupted in recent days across Iran, with more than 1200 people arrested. Nine foreign nationals have also been detained, accused of participating in the demonstrations.
However, a Norway-based Iranian human rights organization claims that at least 76 protesters have been killed by security forces, accusing them of using excessive force and live ammunition.
Three days ago, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi warned that the Iranian authorities would not allow chaos to prevail in the country. Raisi characterized the protests that began following the death of a young woman in Iran as something that the authorities have not yet managed to suppress.
“The death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, which sparked the protests two weeks ago, has saddened everyone, but our government cannot allow these people to disrupt societal peace with their riots,” he was quoted by the BBC.
