Who is Sergeant Hovhannes Sukiasyan, Killed on September 28?
On September 28, Sergeant Hovhannes Paylaki Sukiasyan was killed as a result of the aggression of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. He hailed from the settlement of Nor Aznaberd in the Vayots Dzor Province. He was a contracted serviceman.
In an interview with News.am, his fellow villager Elena Mikaelyan shared that Hovhannes Sukiasyan had served in the Armenian Armed Forces for over ten years. The 44-year-old was married and had two sons.
He also participated in the defense of combat positions in the direction of Jermuk on September 13.
Hovhannes was killed on September 28 when, starting from 18:00, divisions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire with mortars and large-caliber firearms on combat positions situated in the eastern part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
“Two days before the incident, Hovhannes had come to the village for a few hours, saw his family, changed his clothes, and returned to the positions. Hovhannes was a driver; he had also participated in the 44-day war, delivering food to servicemen, evacuating the wounded, and bringing out the bodies of the fallen. Hovhannes was killed by a drone strike. He was a very good friend, a caring husband, a father, and a worthy son to his parents. During the memorial service, it became clear once again how great a respect he enjoyed in both his collective and the village,” Elena said.
The funeral of Hovhannes Sukiasyan will take place today, September 30, at the “Yereboun” Military Pantheon.
