Today Marks the Second Anniversary of the 44-Day War

Exactly two years ago, on September 27, 2020, at 7:10 AM, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale aggression against the Republic of Artsakh. Simultaneously, the enemy began attacks with air forces, artillery, and drones in almost all directions of the contact line, including shelling civilian settlements.

Combat operations took place along the entire length of the Artsakh-Azerbaijan contact line, as well as in certain areas of the Armenia-Azerbaijan contact line, and lasted for 44 days. On the first day of the war unleashed by Turkish-Azerbaijani forces, a state of emergency and general mobilization were declared in Armenia and Artsakh.

During the 44 days of the war, Azerbaijan used internationally banned weapons, including cluster munitions, phosphorus ammunition, and Bayraktar drones, targeting the civilian population and infrastructure of Artsakh and Armenia.

On November 9, 2020, a trilateral statement was signed by the leaders of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan, according to which most of the territory of the Republic of Artsakh was handed over to Azerbaijani control, including the regions of Kalbajar, Aghdam, Lachin (except for the Lachin corridor), the city of Shushi, most of the Hadrut region, and certain villages in the Askeran and Martakert regions. The security of the remaining territories of the Republic of Artsakh is now maintained by Russian peacekeepers. Throughout the war, Turkey provided open military support to Azerbaijan.
