Samvel Martirosyan Urges to Stop Using Mail.ru as Soon as Possible
Media expert Samvel Martirosyan advises to stop using the Russian email service Mail.ru as soon as possible, as it is likely to face sanctions. He emphasizes the need to change email addresses linked to all social networks that were opened through Mail.ru.
“I briefly recommend to stop using Mail.ru as soon as possible and change your email on all social networks, as there is a high probability of falling under sanctions. A large (perhaps even very large) percentage of the population in Armenia uses Mail.ru as their primary or sole email option. I'm not just talking about the risks of having your correspondence monitored by the company officer, but about the fact that Apple has removed the application from its store. It is possible that Google will do the same. Moreover, it is likely that the entire VK holding may fall directly under sanctions, as it is managed by the son of Kiriyenko, a man involved in the occupation of Ukrainian territories who is currently participating in referendums. If there are direct sanctions, keeping resources may lead to the loss of TLS certificates, as is currently happening with Sberbank. This means you use a national Russian certificate, and afterwards your email works, but the officer is comfortably seated right in your home, or your email doesn't work at all.
Even if you do not understand the technical components, I will state that there is only one conclusion: quickly exit Mail.ru and swiftly change it in all your accounts, for instance, on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok,” Martirosyan wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to his advice, Mail.ru can be replaced with Gmail or Outlook email addresses.
“Do not open another Russian mail in its place; they might knock on your door as well. How to change your email? You go here https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=account, add a new email, make it primary, and then delete the old one,” he specified.
