It’s Raining, It’s Cold, People Are Hungry: What’s the Situation at the Lars Checkpoint?
Yesterday, we reported that a group of Armenians from the Lars checkpoint area in North Ossetia contacted us, stating that they have been unable to cross the border and return to Armenia for a whole day.
The border checkpoint is not closed; however, the Russian side is conducting stringent checks since many are attempting to leave Russian territory following the announcement of partial mobilization.
Later, it became known that a difficult situation has arisen for trucks due to significant queues, as drivers have been waiting for several days and are now realizing the challenges regarding their accommodation.
“It’s already impossible. There are many people here, many of whom are waiting without vehicles. Our car's turn won’t come; we are hungry, there are no shops, we are stuck. There’s just 1 km left to reach the Lars checkpoint, and I can’t see the queue before or after me,” said our interlocutor.
When asked by Auroranews for a comment regarding the situation from the checkpoint staff, our source said: “They know nothing, they say nothing. It’s raining now, it’s cold, people are hungry.”
Previously, we had reported that information and videos were circulating showing citizens discussing kilometer-long queues, and that young people were being dropped off near the checkpoint in taxis to cross the border more quickly.
