Avinyan Addressed Armenia's Border Situation During Council Meeting
During an extraordinary session of the Yerevan City Council, Yerevan Mayor Hrachik Saroyan stated that the first item on the agenda was the appointment of former Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan as Deputy Mayor. The Mayor noted that Avinyan's experience in public administration will serve to address the issues facing the capital.
Following that, Tigran Avinyan delivered a speech, suggesting a moment of silence to honor the soldiers who fell in battles fought for Armenia's sovereignty.
In his remarks, Tigran Avinyan addressed the border situation in Armenia: “Last week, Armenia was subjected to yet another aggression from Azerbaijan, forcing us to defend our state’s sovereignty and borders once again on the battlefield. However, this aggression should not discourage or dishearten us; rather, it should remind us of the necessity for diligence and hard work. The heroism of our soldiers must compel us to continue living and working towards strengthening our state, arming our army, and developing our economy. In essence, resistance and struggle currently have no alternative. These are realities that we all must reckon with, and therefore, we all have one task: to work with greater zeal. Every position or status is merely a means to implement goals and ideas and to solve problems.”
Tigran Avinyan expressed that many, including members of the ruling party, have asked him whether it is problematic to be appointed Deputy Mayor after holding the position of Deputy Prime Minister: “I want to firmly say that regardless of the high position I previously held, and regardless of all the discussions related to the upcoming elections, it is a great honor for me to be the Deputy Mayor of my birthplace, Yerevan, to serve the city and its residents. I am grateful for the opportunity granted to me, thank you, Mr. Mayor, and thank you, members of the council.”
