How Many Servicemen Are Currently In Captivity? Ombudsman's Statement

At present, the Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia has data on 16 servicemen who are believed to be in captivity. This was announced by Human Rights Defender Kristine Grigoryan during a Facebook press conference on September 19.

“Since the 13th, various individuals, including parents, have approached us indicating that they have recognized their relatives in various videos. However, these numbers can change rapidly based on new videos and evidence. They could also decrease, for example, if, unfortunately, these individuals are found on the lists of fallen servicemen or if their bodies are returned,” she stated.

According to Kristine Grigoryan, no one can be confident or make assumptions that the lives and conditions of Armenian prisoners of war are ensured in Azerbaijan. It is lamentable to note that international pressures to ensure that country respects its obligations are not sufficient to prevent it from continuing its current actions. “Certainly, that response is inadequate, but we must not tire of working in this direction,” she added.
