Details of Pelosi's Visit to Armenia: International Expert
International expert Suren Sargsyan writes: “Details of Pelosi's visit. The highest-ranking U.S. official ever to visit Armenia. On August 23 and 25, I wrote about Pelosi's visit on my Facebook page. Now I can open up and present details:
- Pelosi is one of the most influential political figures in America and a close ally of President Biden.
- The initiative for the visit comes personally from Pelosi.
- The visit is not regional; she is coming directly from Germany to Armenia. She will not be visiting other countries. Thus, there is no agenda concerning Armenia-Turkey or Armenia-Azerbaijan (at least not at this time).
- According to U.S. media, Pelosi is helping her party win in November and then transition to another job (being appointed as ambassador).
- Of course, elections are coming up in November in the U.S., and Democrats need Armenian votes. However, it should be noted that Pelosi is one of the best friends of Armenians in Congress, and her visit to Armenia also has a personal motivation (especially before a possible resignation).
- Most importantly: when this influential figure decided to come, the Azerbaijani aggression had not yet occurred. She could easily have canceled or postponed the visit or even gone to Baku to maintain parity. Recently, there was also a scandal in the U.S. concerning her husband’s name. However, Pelosi decided to come to Armenia despite the war and the political processes in America, and we must use this circumstance to our advantage (if we are capable). By the way, upon learning of the visit (about a month ago), I suggested that Nancy Pelosi also visit Artsakh. I am not aware if my suggestion was accepted or not.”
