Preparations for Peace Treaty Between Yerevan and Baku Continue, Says Zakharova
Despite the tensions at the borders, preparations for a peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku have not ceased. This statement was made by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a briefing.
“This is a primary priority. The Russian side is providing the necessary assistance. Igor Khovaev, the Russian co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group and special representative of the Russian Foreign Minister on Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement, visited Baku on September 8-9, and Yerevan on September 13-14,” Zakharova said.
According to her, the main topic of discussion was the peace treaty. Russia aims to bring the positions of the parties closer together. She assured that corresponding efforts will continue.
Zakharova recalled that the trilateral agreements between the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan remain the basis for the peaceful resolution of the region.
It is noteworthy that on September 13, starting from 00:05, units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces began to intensively fire on Armenian positions towards Goris, Sotk, and Jermuk using artillery and large-caliber firearms. The adversary is also employing drones.
On September 14, Azerbaijani forces again shelled Jermuk and Verin Shorja, and later, fighting resumed in the Ishkhanasar area of the Syunik Province. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reported during a question-and-answer session in parliament that as of September 14, the Armenian side has suffered 105 casualties.
As of September 15 at 11 AM, no significant incidents were recorded on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
