ICRC in Armenia Comments on Baku's Willingness to Return Bodies of Armenian Soldiers

As previously reported, a statement from Baku indicates that they are prepared to unilaterally return the bodies of up to 100 Armenian servicemen to Yerevan, noting that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has already been informed of their intentions.

Auroranews contacted Zara Amatuni, the head of communication and prevention programs at the ICRC delegation in Armenia, to understand what information exists and whether the ICRC in Armenia has received notice on this matter.

Amatuni confirmed that the authorities in Baku have informed the ICRC about their willingness to unilaterally hand over the bodies of Armenian soldiers to the Armenian side.

“The continuation of the process depends on the agreement of the authorities of the parties involved, which could be achieved through mediation or other formats. We are willing to act as a humanitarian mediator, but this requires the consent of the parties. That is, they may inform about this, but they could directly execute the action without a mediator. Our organization, along with the delegations in Yerevan and Baku, is ready to engage and support similar humanitarian actions. We are in dialogue with the Armenian authorities on this and other humanitarian issues,” Amatuni said.
