VIDEO: MEP’s Speech Condemning Azerbaijan's Aggression Receives Applause in European Parliament
A package of sanctions against Azerbaijan must be prepared immediately. This statement was made by MEP François-Xavier Bellamy during a session of the European Parliament.
In his speech, the parliamentarian highlighted the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan towards the sovereign territory of Armenia last night, noting that Azerbaijan used heavy artillery, including targeting peaceful settlements.
He stated that at least 48 military personnel and 3 civilians have died as a result of Azerbaijani aggression. “Nothing can justify this aggression. For two years, Azerbaijan, with the support of Turkey, has been planning an attack on Armenia, displaying aggression against the country's sovereign territory. Baku is grossly violating international law. We must vehemently condemn the criminal aggression of the Aliyev regime against Armenia. Madam President, we ask you to do this on behalf of the Parliament. Our clear position can prevent and stop Azerbaijan in its path to implementing its criminal plans,” said Bellamy.
The French MEP believes that European countries must cease treating this criminal state as a full partner and funding the threat by purchasing gas from it. He emphasized the need to prepare an effective package of sanctions against Azerbaijan quickly and urgently convene a meeting of the UN Security Council.
“We must do this to ensure the security of our own continent. Otherwise, this new war will threaten us as well. We must do this for ourselves and for the people of Armenia,” the MEP highlighted in his speech.
It is reminded that the Armenian Ministry of Defense issued a statement saying that starting at 00:05 on September 13, Azerbaijani Armed Forces units began intensive fire on Armenian positions in the directions of Goris, Sotk, and Jermuk using artillery and large-caliber firearms. The adversary also employs UAVs. There are casualties and injuries. The Prime Minister of Armenia stated in a question-and-answer session in the National Assembly that the verified number of casualties is 49. The Armenian government has already appealed to Russia, the UN, and the CSTO regarding the aggression by Azerbaijan.
