Extraordinary Meeting of CSTO Permanent Council Held
On September 13, at the initiative of the Armenian side, an extraordinary meeting of the CSTO Permanent Council was held under the chairmanship of Viktor Biyagov, the Permanent and Plenipotentiary Representative of Armenia to the CSTO. The meeting was attended by Valery Semerikov, Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO, and Anatoly Sidorov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff.
During the meeting, the Armenian representative presented information to the members of the CSTO Permanent Council stating that on September 13, after midnight, the armed forces of Azerbaijan carried out provocative and aggressive actions against the sovereign territory of Armenia, grossly violating international law and the ceasefire regime, attempting to advance their positions in certain directions.
The Armenian armed forces have been placed on heightened military alert and have engaged in the defense of their assigned sectors. The actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces are considered a gross violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia, which is a CSTO member state, and the situation could lead to large-scale armed conflict.
Viktor Biyagov noted that Armenia expects its allies in the CSTO to take effective collective actions to ensure the security, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia within the framework of the CSTO Charter. He expressed confidence that CSTO mechanisms are capable of deterring the aggressor.
