A State-Level Campaign Was Launched to Declare the Kapan-Jakhten Road Safe: Tatoyan Provides Details

The irresponsible actions of the Armenian government and the criminal acts of Azerbaijan have made it impossible to use the alternative Kapan-Jakhten road in the Syunik region today, as this road has also been constructed in a way that puts it under the aim of Azerbaijani armed forces. Former Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan wrote this on his Facebook page.

Just last night, on September 13, Azerbaijani armed forces targeted this road, including an ambulance.

By targeting the alternative road and preventing its use, Azerbaijani armed forces are intentionally creating humanitarian and isolation problems for the civilian populations and peaceful residents of Syunik.

This is the road that the Armenian government began constructing after the main Kapan-Jakhten road was illegally blocked by Azerbaijani armed forces instead of removing the Azerbaijani soldiers.

Moreover, at the level of the Deputy Prime Minister, MPs of the ruling faction, and other officials, a campaign of irresponsible statements began in order to justify that the deployment of Azerbaijani armed forces is not a problem and that the road is safe for use.

The Public Television's "News" also joined the praise of the alternative road through its reports.

As the Human Rights Defender, we collected all the issues that would arise after the operation of this alternative road. I provided evidence that a road cannot be constructed under the target of Azerbaijani forces, and that the real issue should be the removal of these illegal armed deployments, not building a road under their targeting without considering safety.

At that time, the Kapan municipality rightly proposed to the Government to construct a road passing through safer areas (I personally traversed all those territories), which was quite safe and did not require significant investment in resources, but the Government rejected this proposal without any justification.

I am publishing photos taken months ago, showing Azerbaijani illegal deployments, the main Kapan-Jakhten road, and the alternative road being constructed by the Government.

Currently, the gathered evidence also indicates that Azerbaijani armed forces are firing towards the villages of Nerqin Hand, Shikahogh, and Srrashen in the Kapan community.
