“The queen is leaving Balmoral. Since 10 AM, mourners have gathered in the streets of some Scottish towns and villages ahead of the royal procession,” reports say. The journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh covers 175 miles (over 280 km) and the roads along the route are closed.
According to Daily Mail, the journey will take about six hours. The coffin will be transported on foot through villages, towns, and cities so the public can pay their respects to the queen.
Elizabeth II reigned for more than 70 years, becoming the longest-reigning and oldest monarch in British history. Condolences have been offered by numerous political and public figures. Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the most significant events in the recent history of the United Kingdom are intrinsically linked to Her Majesty’s name.
