Russian-Armenian tennis player Karen Khachanov has reached the semifinals of the US Open for the first time in his professional career, as reported by Sports.ru.

This is the last Grand Slam event taking place in New York. Until now, the 26-year-old Russian had not advanced past the third round at the US Open.

Ranked 27th, Khachanov defeated Australian Nick Kyrgios (ranked 23rd) in the quarterfinals with a score of 7:5, 4:6, 7:5, 6:7 (3:7), 6:4. The match lasted 3 hours and 39 minutes. Unable to accept the defeat, the Australian immediately began breaking his tennis rackets following the match.

Before this match, the Australian had only three losses in 14 five-set matches.

In the semifinals, Khachanov will face Norway's Casper Ruud, who earlier defeated Italy's Matteo Berrettini in the quarterfinals.
