Greece's Sovereignty Over Its Islands Is Not Disputed: State Department Responds to Erdogan

Greece's sovereignty over its islands is not disputed. This was how the U.S. State Department commented on Turkey's allegations that Greece has occupied the islands of the Aegean Sea. Turkish news outlet artigercek.com reports on the matter.

According to a State Department representative, particularly amid the ongoing events in Ukraine, statements that could escalate tensions among NATO allies are ineffective.

“The United States continues to encourage NATO allies to work together to maintain peace and security in the region and to resolve disputes through diplomatic means. The sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected and upheld... We call on all parties to refrain from rhetoric and actions that could exacerbate tensions,” the statement said.
