Pique has lost his spot in the team's starting lineup, not having stepped onto the field at all this season. Nevertheless, according to Barcelona's head coach Xavi, the experienced defender remains a key player for the team.

Pique’s contract with Barcelona runs until 2024. As reported by Readfootball.com, several months ago, the media suggested that Lionel Messi's return would only be possible if Pique left the club. Following these reports, Xavi's mentor and Barcelona's president Joan Laporta hinted that both parties are interested in making that happen.
