Gazprom Completely Halts Nord Stream Due to Turbine Malfunction
Gazprom has halted the Nord Stream pipeline entirely following a warning from Rostekhnadzor regarding a malfunction in one of its turbines. This stoppage will remain in effect until necessary repairs are made, as reported by РИА Новости, citing the company's statement.
A company representative has sent a letter to Siemens regarding issues with the engine and the need for repairs. Starting Wednesday, August 31, Gazprom has suspended supplies through the pipeline for three days. The company clarified that this suspension is due to the ongoing maintenance of the only operating gas compressor at the Portovaya compressor station, which will be carried out in collaboration with Siemens specialists.
The Nord Stream is the main route for gas supplies from Russia to Europe, which has been operating under restrictions since mid-June, and has been functioning at only 20 percent of its daily capacity of approximately 170 million cubic meters since the end of July. Moscow has emphasized that the decrease in supplies is solely due to sanctions that have caused issues with the maintenance and repair of Siemens gas pumping stations. Currently, the pipeline is supported by only one turbine.
