US Bans Nvidia Chip Exports to Russia and China

The US government has prohibited chip manufacturers from supplying machine learning processors to Russia and China. In a letter to companies, it states that the new licensing requirement will eliminate the risk that the chips could be utilized or redirected for "military end use" or by "military end users" in China and Russia.

According to Forbes, the United States has banned semiconductor manufacturer Nvidia from exporting two types of processors designed to accelerate machine learning tasks to Russia and China. The media outlet cites documents from the company submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

It is noted that the new licensing requirement was implemented on August 26 for all of Nvidia's products that contain or are close to the upcoming A100 and H100 integrated circuits.
