IAEA Mission Arrives in Zaporizhzhia
A delegation of 14 experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has arrived in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, according to AFP. On the morning of August 31, the group, led by Director Rafael Grossi, departed from Kyiv towards the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
According to AFP reporters, the specialists will spend the night in the city and on the morning of September 1 will head to the nuclear power plant in Enerhodar. The inspection is scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 3, as previously reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
On the morning of August 31, the mayor of Enerhodar, Dmytro Orlov, reported on his Telegram channel that the city council building is under fire. Pro-Russian authorities in the Zaporizhzhia region have stated that they have detained a group of “Ukrainian saboteurs preparing terrorism at the nuclear power plant.”
On the day before, Rafael Grossi had met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv. During the meeting, Zelensky urged Grossi to urgently demilitarize the site. The head of the IAEA announced plans to organize a permanent mission at the nuclear facility.
