40 People Hospitalized Due to Dog Bites: Mayor
During the past month, 14 cases of dog bites by stray dogs have been reported in Yerevan. This was announced today by Harutyun Arakelyan, director of the "Center for the Control of Stray Animals," during a session of the Yerevan City Council.
According to him, a solution has been provided for 11 cases, while 3 cases are still pending.
Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan responded by stating that he has been informed of 40 cases. "Why do the reported figures differ? You should also obtain information from the health department to conduct a thorough analysis," said Sargsyan.
In response, Harutyun Arakelyan noted that they have an agreement with the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention to provide a complete analysis; however, some cases contain medical confidential information, which poses challenges.
Hrachya Sargsyan acknowledged that the information-sharing scheme is, in fact, not functioning effectively. The organization also mentioned that they do not receive information regarding the victims.
“We understand about the victims, but the number of cases does not correspond,” remarked Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan. The Center for the Control of Stray Animals responded that there is a need to filter the reported numbers, as the count of those who visit hospitals and those who report to the center is different, given that many of those visiting hospitals are from the regions.
