Theft in Parliament: Police Involved, Reports 'Hraparak'
'Hraparak' newspaper reports that a service investigation was carried out months ago regarding the missing lion statue and commemorative medals from the National Assembly. It was stated from the Assembly that since the commemorative medals were awarded prior to 2018 and the Assembly's museum was established in 2018, all medals were kept in various storages before that, making the origins unclear for many of them.
The service investigation was declared by the head of the Assembly's staff regarding the museum's management and its relevant department, yet the 'stolen' items have not been found, prompting a referral to the police.
A year ago, expansion and renovation works began in the museum, resulting in periodic relocations of museum items. During one such move, the absence of four items was discovered.
It is worth noting that under the 'Law on Public Service', official persons are not allowed to receive gifts exceeding 60,000 drams. It is presumed that the items could have reached that amount at most. The Assembly only stated that they were bronze souvenirs.
How the souvenirs were removed from the parliament building under tightened security conditions remains unclear. One can only speculate that the security authorities have been given strict instructions to rigorously inspect only journalists and opposition members.
