Decision Made to Establish New Route for Armenia-Artsakh Communication Starting Tomorrow at 20:00
The Information Department of the Office of the President of Artsakh reports that a regular meeting of the Security Council was held today, August 29, under the leadership of Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan.
The agenda included issues related to the operation of a new route connecting the Republic of Artsakh with the Republic of Armenia. Reports were presented by Security Council Secretary Vitali Balasanyan, Minister of Internal Affairs Karen Sargsyan, and Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Hayk Khanumyan.
It was noted that according to point 6 of the statement signed on November 9, 2020, by the leaders of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Russian Federation, the new route will maintain a corridor logic. The asphalt paving works for the approximately 4.7 km road temporarily connecting the Goris-Stepanakert highway have been completed.
Participants in the meeting emphasized the need for security guarantees related to the new road and the importance of coordinated efforts between state bodies and the Russian peacekeeping mission stationed in Artsakh.
As a result of the interested discussions, the Security Council decided to commence communication with the Republic of Armenia via the new route through the territory of the Berdadzor sub-region of the Shushi area starting at 20:00 on August 30.
