Macron Declares the End of 'Abundance' and 'Carefree Living'
French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a grim forecast regarding the environmental and resource crisis before his ministers, stating that we are witnessing the end of 'abundance' and 'carefree living', according to Le Figaro.
"The situation we are in is a phenomenon similar to great shocks and upheavals," the president began his speech. "For several years now, we have been in a phase of ending a situation that may have seemed abundant. It has been a consumable without costs... this is the end of the abundance of goods and technologies that once seemed always available to us," he stated, announcing his readiness to "take steps to eliminate all consequences."
Emmanuel Macron also announced the upcoming work on a 'major environmental planning' under the aegis of French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne in the coming weeks. "It is time for a clear and decisive choice to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for the season we have just survived, to double the efforts we can invest, and to transform the country more rapidly," Macron remarked.
The French president expressed gratitude to the ministers who are "on the front lines, particularly in matters of internal affairs and health", as well as to firefighters, elected representatives, and all public servants who had to deal with both major wildfires we experienced this summer and the storms and bad weather.
