Britain Applies for Permission to Fly Spy Plane Over Russian Territory, Russia Calls It Provocation
The Russian Ministry of Defense has received a request from Great Britain for the RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft to pass through Russian airspace. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
Following an incident that occurred the day before, Britain sought permission for the aircraft's passage through Russian airspace. The Russian Ministry of Defense labeled such actions as deliberate provocations. Consequently, the aerospace forces have been instructed to prevent the British aircraft from traversing Russia's territory.
"Russian aerospace forces have been instructed to prevent airspace violations. All potential consequences will be borne by Great Britain," the Ministry of Defense stated.
It is recalled that on August 15, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the violation of airspace by the British RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft. The incident took place near the Svyatoy Nos cape in the Barents Sea. A MiG-31BM fighter jet was launched to intercept the aircraft. The British plane changed direction and flew back toward Great Britain.
Earlier, it was reported that a Russian helicopter had violated Finnish airspace in the eastern section of the border.
