VIDEO: I Am Glad We Made That Decision, Says Pashinyan
Today, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the work of the Economic Policy Council meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office has commenced. The information has been published on the official website of the government leader.
“I remember when in 2018 we discussed the issue of having a flat income tax rate here, and it was a very serious debate, there were many significant doubts, both for and against opinions. Ultimately, a political decision was made that we should go this way. At that time, we had two expectations from that decision. We expected that jobs would come out of the shadows and that with a lower tax rate, we would ensure more significant tax revenues from the income tax. Those forecasts have become a reality today. To be honest, I am very glad that we made that decision, because political power, or at least I, who am not an economist by profession, listen to economists and try to draw conclusions, of course, in conjunction with the government format, with the parliamentary majority,” said Pashinyan.
The work of the meeting is taking place at the Central Bank's research center in Dilijan. Attending the meeting are also President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan, Minister of Finance Tigran Khachatryan, Chairman of the Board of the Economic Perspectives Center Foundation Arthur Javadyan, Professor Ruben Yenikolopov from the New Economic School in Russia, Professor Vladimir Asriyan from the Barcelona School of Economics, and other officials.
The agenda of the meeting includes discussions on issues related to Armenia's economic policy, the current situation, and anticipated developments. Discussions are planned regarding the government's program, macroeconomic developments, monetary and budgetary policy, improvements in agricultural competitiveness, the development of the food system, and other topics.
The Economic Council meeting will continue its work on August 7 as well.
