Macron on the Situation in Artsakh

French President Emmanuel Macron is closely monitoring the developments in the South Caucasus. This information was reported by his press service.

According to the statement, Macron spoke by phone yesterday with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The French president expressed concern over the escalations recorded around the Lachin corridor. He urged all efforts to be made to avoid escalation and sit down at the negotiating table.

Macron emphasized the importance of fulfilling commitments under the ceasefire agreement made on November 9, 2020. The Élysée Palace states that France maintains close contact with the parties and partners, continuing to support and contribute to dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan and efforts aimed at preserving regional stability.

It should be reminded that on August 3, Azerbaijani units targeted the combat positions of the Artsakh Defense Army and the site of permanent deployment of one of its units, using weapons of various calibers, mortars, grenade launchers, and strike drones. The Armenian side has reported 2 fatalities and 19 injuries.
