Human Rights Defender Comments on Azerbaijani MP's Statement and Situation in Artsakh

The Member of Parliament of Azerbaijan, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, made a unique confession yesterday regarding the Azerbaijani state's policy aimed at the ethnic cleansing of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh, as stated by Armenia's Human Rights Defender Kristinne Grigoryan.

He specifically mentioned, "Armenia should put an end to its territorial claims towards Azerbaijan and stop supporting the bloodthirsty separatism in Karabakh. As long as that is not done, we should not recognize their right to live peacefully (in Nagorno-Karabakh)." Following this, the aforementioned MP specified that under such conditions, the lives of Armenians cannot be possible in Azerbaijan.

Another MP, Fazil Mustafa, also did not lag behind his colleague, making direct threats to the physical existence of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh.

In fact, examples and evidence of Azerbaijan's policy of ethnic hatred and ethnic cleansing against Armenians are numerous; however, it is notable that these officials representing the Azerbaijani leadership make such announcements amid provocations carried out by their own armed forces in recent days, resulting in the death of two Armenian servicemen and injuring 19 others of varying degrees.

It is a fact that the right to life of the peaceful population of Nagorno-Karabakh is not guaranteed, and this is being openly stated by an Azerbaijani official. I have shared this information with my international partners, as well as with the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which will discuss Azerbaijan's periodic report on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination in the coming days,” the Human Rights Defender's statement reads.
