Armenia and Azerbaijan Seek Observer Status in SCO: Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has highlighted the prospects for the expansion of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). According to him, there is a consensus on Belarus joining the SCO as a full-fledged member.

Lavrov recalled that last year, Iran officially received candidate status in the SCO, and the process for this country’s full membership has already begun.

“There are several applicants vying for observer status. Several Arab countries, as well as Armenia and Azerbaijan, have expressed interest in this,” he noted.

According to the Russian Foreign Minister, consultations at the level of foreign ministries will continue until the Vilnius summit.
