Incident at Shirak State University: Staff Member Assaults Vice-Rector

Shirak State University (SSU) sources informed 168.am that another disgraceful incident occurred at the university a few days ago:  The media outlet reports that a staff member has assaulted Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Gagik Nikoghosyan. The reason appears to be internal working relations between the two officials. Gagik Nikoghosyan is described, at best, with negative connotations within the university. Almost everyone at the university knows that he is behind the closure of certain majors. Specifically, according to information received, it was with his active involvement that the political science department was closed, and the merging of the department of Russian language with the foreign languages department was also initiated by him.

SSU's press sources reveal that Gagik Nikoghosyan, lacking a serious professional background, was appointed vice-rector immediately. Reports suggest that his appointment was facilitated by former rector Sahak Minasyan, and this is not the first instance of him facing issues with university staff.

Additionally, it is reported that Gagik Nikoghosyan feels highly privileged, often failing to show up for work for days, is rarely present at the university during working hours, and his job responsibilities remain unclear as he doesn't sign any documents yet receives an enormous salary for his inactivity.

Rector Serobyan, like Nikoghosyan, holds a PhD in physical-mathematical sciences, but their educational program has been devoid of students for years, which does not prevent them from benefiting from internal grants alongside the rector.

“This incident is yet another proof that Rector Yervand Serobyan does not manage the moral-psychological atmosphere at the university; his colleagues disregard him, and many of them slander him behind closed doors. The moral-psychological environment is actually disrupted by the rector himself, as he divides the university into 'friends' and 'enemies',” said a source to 168.am.
